Might have to sneak off for a little nap this afternoon (here’s hoping Nick doesn’t read this). I only had three hours sleep last night, you see. It was a good night though. I finished writing at about 11pm and decided to go out for a quick drive and I didn’t get home again until half past eight this morning.
Why? Because for one night only I had the keys to a new GT3 RS and I’m still as much of an excitable child as the first morning I walked into evo’s offices. Everyone else in the office had taken it home at some point during the previous seven days except me and it was due to be picked up yesterday. I was quietly very disappointed. But as 5.30pm rolled around there had been no Porsche truck and a tentative call to the press office revealed that a clerical error meant we had it for one more night…
I took the long way home from the office, obviously, but I couldn’t really leave it at that. Common sense said that once I’d finished scribbling I should have a quick drive and then go to sleep, but you’re a long time dead and someone once said that you’ll regret the things you didn’t do more than the things you did. So I drove. And then drove a bit more. And then filled up with fuel and kept on driving through the night.
Eventually, wired but tired I arrived at my girlfriend’s house down on the south coast. Unsurprisingly she was asleep. She was still asleep when I got up again three hours later and drove to my parent’s house in Surrey. There I woke my father up (couple of blips as I pulled into the drive meant he was already at the back door by the time I’d got out of the bucket seat) and we went out for a quick dawn run around our favourite test route. Then it was back up to Buckinghamshire (where I live) for breakfast, before calling in on two friends who I knew would appreciate a ride in an RS.
By the time I got to the office this morning the man from Porsche was waiting with his truck to collect it. ‘Did you enjoy it?’ he said…
Shit da's een mooi en liefdevol stukje
Eerst lastig als 'n klein kind dat geen deel van de koek krijgt, dan zorgen dat het een hele taart voor z'n eigen krijgt en z'n vader en vrienden laten meegenieten... Priceless
