Renault has set a new front-wheel-drive production car record at the Nurburgring with the new limited-edition Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy.
The new time of 8mins 8secs beats the previous record set by - er - Renault by nine seconds.
The new benchmark helps to cement Renault's reputation as genuine hot hatch royalty, and consigns the previous record, set by a Megane R26.R back in 2008, to history.
What's particularly impressive about the time is that, despite the fact that the latest Megane Trophy is a limited edition, it is not a stripped-out hardcore special like the R26.R was, but not all that much more than a Renaulsport Megane with a tad more power and some sticky tyres (15 extra hp and 15lb ft extra, to be precise)...
