  • A POSSIBLE ABARTH PANDA? NO WAY!

    Among all news coming from Fiat-Chrysler group regarding a possible Panda supercharged could arrive soon.
    According to the publication, Fiat may be working on a sporty version of the new Panda adding a 105 hp TwinAir engine, which will be also available in the larger 500L.
    This would accompanied by some exterior and interior changes ir order to get a better look.
    It would be the successor of second generation Fiat Panda 100hp, which was on sale for some years and got a good impression in specialized press.
    A better Panda is not a bad idea at all, well the model is pretty interesting and could find some buyers wishing to have one but looking for more fun.
    In fact, it would be a good idea specially now when the Punto gets old without any clear successor, and buyers begin to go to other car brands.
    The supercharged Panda could be offered as something between the regular ‘A-Segment’ and ‘B’ one.
    What should not work is the idea of bringing it to life under Abarth logo.
    Yes, it would a product that could fit in Abarth range as it would have a turbo engine and people could differentiate it from regular Pandas.
    Yes, Abarth has a good brand awareness and image, and needs urgently more models.
    But the Panda does not breathe Abarth’s philosophy even though it had a powerful engine.
    It is just a small family car conceived as that.
    Fortunately it has already become the referent of the segment thanks to its main characteristics: small outside, big inside with an affordable price.
    Those are not Abarth values, and a possible Abarth Panda would not only confuse buyers but would damage severely the image of the good Abarth.

      New 0.9 Turbo TwinAir - 105 HP

      The new 105 HP 0.9 Turbo is the maximum evolution of the TwinAir family of engines that combine the concept of downsizing (reduction of displacement and weight) with sophisticated engineering such as supercharging through a turbocharger, the exhaust manifold integration in the cylinder head and the brand-new MultiAir 2 intake valve control system.
      The second generation of MultiAir further optimises the engine's thermo-dynamic efficiency by modulating the amount of exhaust gases recirculated in the combustion chamber (internal EGR) thanks to a brand-new design of the intake cam profile.

      The exhaust manifold in the cylinder head instead reduces the temperature of the exhaust gases (which are directly cooled by the engine cooling system).
      This has a positive impact on fuel consumption because the enrichments otherwise necessary to keep down the maximum temperatures of the combustion gases are reduced in order to preserve correct turbocharger operation.

      The small petrol engine with 2-cylinder architecture combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox develops 105 HP at 5,500 rpm with a maximum torque of 145 Nm at just 2,000 rpm.
      The value of the specific power is considerable - a good 120 HP/litre - a value comparable to the sportier engines.

      As on the previous Turbo TwinAir applications, ECO mode is also available for the new Fiat Panda TA 105: in this condition the maximum torque delivered is limited to 120 Nm and the power to 98 HP, allowing the power unit to function in the operating range which permits maximum efficiency and thus minimum emissions.

      The TwinAir engine is a little gem also because of the good level of comfort it offers.
      The agreeable and characteristic timbre of the two-cylinder engine has been optimised using the balancing countershaft and dual mass flywheel that minimise vibrations and shaking.
      Particular attention was also paid to improving the soundproofing by studying containment solutions to reduce the levels of noise perceived in the passenger compartment and to improve the articulation index.

      The Fiat Panda 105 HP 0.9 Turbo TwinAir is very brilliant in its performance (top speed of 186 km/h and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 10.2 seconds) and it is at the top of its class in fuel consumption and emissions in the homologation combined cycle at the same time (4.6 litres/100 km and 109 g/km of CO2).

                      • Dit vind ik wel wat hebben zo met de Valentine Red buiten kleur de Gun Metal kleurige velgen en de verlaging.

                          • Velgen in "Gun Metal" kleur is al een hele verbetering over de zilveren velgen en de verlaging maakt het geheel mooi af.

                                      • Ik ben niet van plan een nieuwe auto te kopen, maar mocht ik het zijn en budget was van belang, dan kocht ik mij direct een Panda met twinair, om de één of andere reden vind ik ze echt de max....

                                        Waarschijnlijk door zo'n reviews te lezen :

                                        It’s hard to explain what it is about crap European cars that really gets me excited. On paper, this little Fiat is a dud. It’s 69 hp from an anemic, wheezing engine from Italy’s motoring dark ages (the 1980s), wrapped up in a stunted wagon-SUV thing. It’s not sporty, nor does it pretend to be, but it is a blast to drive.
